Apple’s plan to expand iPhone 16 Pro manufacturing to India seems to be coming to fruition. A recent leak shows what could be the official iPhone 16 Pro box sticker, with the key phrase “Assembled in India.” This “Made in India” label provides further evidence of Apple’s move to diversify production beyond China, bringing a big shift to its global manufacturing strategy.
Foxconn, Apple’s long-time manufacturing partner, has already begun preparing its workforce at the Tamil Nadu facility in India. The company, which has been a crucial player in assembling iPhones, is reportedly training its staff to produce the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models. This leak strengthens the rumors that Apple will indeed manufacture these high-end devices in India for the first time.
A recent image shared by a Weibo user has captured the attention of tech enthusiasts worldwide. The image shows what appears to be a label sealing the iPhone 16 Pro box. What’s most intriguing is the line that reads: “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in India.” While the source of this leak is unverified, the label aligns perfectly with earlier reports and adds credibility to the ongoing speculation about Apple’s “Made in India” iPhones.
Initially, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models assembled in India are expected to be exported to the US, the Middle East, and Europe to meet global demand. However, local production in India is also set to ramp up after the launch, signaling a broader production shift for Apple. Interestingly, only the Pro and Pro Max models are rumored to be produced in India, while the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models will continue to be assembled in China.
In addition to Foxconn, other Apple partners in India, including Pegatron and Tata Group, are also gearing up to start producing the iPhone 16 Pro. This move is a continuation of Apple’s strategy to shift a portion of its production out of China, mitigating risks tied to supply chain disruptions. Last year, Apple began assembling the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models in India, and now the tech giant is doubling down on its investment in the country.
While India’s market for high-end iPhones remains modest due to their premium pricing, the country’s role as a production hub is expanding rapidly. Apple sees India not only as a key player in its supply chain but also as a growing consumer market, albeit at a slower pace. As the iPhone 16 Pro models are produced locally, more devices are expected to be exported, meeting the high demand in the US and Europe while gradually increasing local availability.
The potential of “Made in India” iPhone 16 Pro models marks a significant milestone for Apple. With Foxconn leading the way and other partners joining the effort, Apple is set to diversify its production, reducing its dependency on China. The leaked box sticker, though unconfirmed, adds fuel to the rumors and suggests that Apple’s plans are well underway. The iPhone 16 Pro’s journey from India to global markets could reshape how and where future Apple devices are made, making this an exciting development to watch.
